Camera Obscura

The Camera Obscura project is based on Plato's Allegory of the Cave. In Plato's Allegory of theCave, the stages leading to the world of Ideas—'shadows', 'puppets of objects', and 'objects’ —form a chain culminating in the 'Sun', the ultimate source of all knowledge. This project examines the allegory through the lens of the pinhole analogy. The artist has looked at Plato’s cave througha pinhole in the present day and used human bodies to produce visuals that resemble the'shadows' and the 'puppets of objects' in the cave. Images created by a small flame in thedarkness are presented to the viewer. Another element that makes the project interesting is thetechnique used: the pinhole method, chosen for its resemblance to the narrative, was constructed as a large box. The image formed on the inner opposite wall of the box by an

externally integrated camera was recorded again with a digital camera and projected outside.
